Overview

During early menopause, your ovaries gradually stop producing estrogen and progesterone. Decreasing levels of estrogen can cause you to experience symptoms such as hot flashes, as well as vaginal dryness and discomfort—all of which can be uncomfortable and bothersome.

Without treatment, these symptoms may last for months or even years. The loss of estrogen during menopause also increases your risk of osteoporosis, a disabling and potentially life-threatening disease marked by a decrease in the density of your bones.

It's important that you discuss these changes with your doctor and ask about what therapy options are right for you.

One option is ACTIVELLA®, an oral combination hormone therapy.

ACTIVELLA® is used after menopause in women with a uterus to reduce moderate to severe hot flashes

Hot flashes are a hallmark symptom of menopause. Up to 80% of women who are going through menopause experience these internal waves of heat. Hot flashes usually last from a few seconds to a few minutes. The frequency and intensity of hot flashes vary from one woman to another.

If you are bothered by hot flashes, ask your doctor about ACTIVELLA®. ACTIVELLA® has been proven to provide relief from moderate or severe daytime and nighttime menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes.

ACTIVELLA® may help reduce your chances of getting osteoporosis (thin weak bones)

Osteoporosis is a bone disorder that affects more than 8 million American women. Approximately another 14 million women have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for developing osteoporosis. Postmenopausal osteoporosis is characterized by lowered bone mass; the bone tissue becomes less dense and less strong. This leads to fragile bones that are more susceptible to fracture. Although bones naturally weaken somewhat with age in women and men starting in their late 30s, women lose significant bone mass relatively rapidly after menopause. This accelerated bone loss, caused by estrogen deficiency, significantly increases the likelihood of fractures. The best way for you to control osteoporosis is through prevention.

Plan for a healthy postmenopausal future by asking your doctor about ways to reduce the risk of osteoporosis. This may include regular weight-bearing exercise and the addition of a daily calcium supplement to your diet. While exercise and calcium supplements can help, they alone may not be enough for women who are at risk for osteoporosis. If you are one of these women, your doctor may prescribe ACTIVELLA®.
